WebPublicaPress – United Nations – New York – The 193 member-states of UN General Assembly adopts the resolution to condemn aggression of Russian Federation on sovereign state of Ukraine member of the United Nations. Two thirds majority of presented was requested for the adoption. 141 UN member-states voted in favor; 35 countries abstained and only 5 UN member-states were against.

And the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said today’s resolution “reflects a central truth” with the message – the world wants an end to the tremendous human suffering in Ukraine.   UN chief said he stands by this resolution and will be guided by its call.  He said the message of the General Assembly is loud and clear: “End hostilities in Ukraine — now.  Silence the guns — now.  Open the door to dialogue and diplomacy — now.”

Guterres added the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine must be respected in line with the UN Charter adding international community and UN  don’t have a moment to lose. “The brutal effects of the conflict are plain to see.”

“But as bad as the situation is for the people in Ukraine right now, it threatens to get much, much worse.  The ticking clock is a time bomb,” Guterres stressed.

Guterres said – looking ahead, he will continue to do everything in his power “to contribute to an immediate cessation of hostilities and urgent negotiations for peace.”

“People in Ukraine desperately need peace. And people around the world demand it,” Mr. Guterres concluded.

resolution on condemning Russian aggression on Ukraine to put their countries names on the copy of the UN Charter as historical document that will be kept with the UN Secretary General office in New York.

Before the vote of condemning Russian aggression on Ukraine at the UN General Assembly Ukrainian ambassador to UN said this war is war of Putin, Šaigov, Lavrov and others – but not of Russian citizens who oppose it. It is Putin’s Russia that should be condemned not all Russians.
