WebPublicaPress (UNITED NATIONS) – New York – Although the World Health Organization (WHO) is on its way to conclude its investigation in Wuhan with findings the COVID-19 virus did not escape from the Chinese laboratory, official Washington didn’t buy that story immediately.

A quite differently tuned representatives of the Biden administration, judging by the first reactions of the State Department spokesperson Ned Price – rejected any thought that the coronavirus appeared first in a country other than China.

WHO also stood by its previous determination that COVID-19 most likely entered the human population through an intermediate animal, but not from Wuhan laboratory.

And the US Department of State spokesperson Ned Price has acknowledged the US would wait to see full report from the WHO before reaching conclusions about the origin of the coronavirus, media in the United States widely reported.

“Rather than rush to conclusions that may be motivated by anything other than the science, we want to see where that data leaves us, where that science leads us. And our conclusions will be predicated on that,” Price said, according to US -Today.

Medical and other scientists from 10 countries as a part of WHO inspection have been in China since mid-January. They visited important scientific institutions, laboratories and hospitals, and talked to the Chinese authorities, to reaffirm  - Wuhan is the modern and safe laboratory and was not the source of the virus; no evidence was found that the COVID-19 came from this laboratory. This also implies that the source is of natural origin rather than an artificial creation, or a laboratory mutant.

China influenced the work of WHO inspectors

But, WHO’s field work and other activities in Wuhan have been closely monitored by Chinese officials and security officers, while Beijing has repeatedly resisted called for a completely independent investigation into the origins of the virus, same US media source reported.

Asked if the Biden administration is satisfied with China’s cooperation, on whether authorities in Beijing are being fully transparent, Price said “the jury is still out”.

US official has especially pointed out that no one in Washington believes the COVID appeared anywhere else other than in China. The idea that it was initiated in Europe is also rejected, regardless of the fact that we now know – the virus was indeed presented in some European countries from the fall of 2019.

“I don’t think there is any reasonable person who would argue that the coronavirus originated elsewhere, (then in China – E.A)” Price said.

Remembering Pompeo’s words

In the last year of Trump Administration then US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was fingerprinting China for being origin of the deadly virus and not being candid about it with the rest of the world.

Last spring, in May 2020, Mr. Pompeo said he has seen “enormous evidence” that the virus infecting much of the world originated in a Wuhan laboratory.

“I can tell you that there is a significant amount of evidence that this came from that laboratory in

Wuhan,” Mr. Pompeo said on ABC’s “This Week” in May 2020, but he didn’t describe that evidence.

During one Fox News TV appearance, President Donald Trump suggested China engaged in a coverup because it was embarrassed. “I think they made a horrible mistake and they didn’t want to admit it,” he said; both quotes according to Wall Street Journal from May 3 – 2020.

New Chinese narrative

After this Mission in 2021, the WHO say will no longer pursue the active investigation on topic inChina. WHO experts concluded that the Wuhan wildlife market (nature source) was an area where the virus began spreading rapidly, but they were unable to determine how it first arrived there.

At the same time, primarily thanks to the Washington administration, an attempt to install the Chinese narrative that COVID-19 first appeared in another country was rejected. Given that the WHO is part of the United Nations, it will be important to hear the position of the UN in New York on the latest findings. The story about COVID is not over, nor is there a trace of it, because it has not been determined exactly where this deadly virus originated.
